The first records of turbines here are from about 1900. Three turbines are drawn in the first plans for modernisation of the mill: a large Jonwal turbine and a Haag turbine drove the large mill and a Jonwal turbine drove the small mill. Around 1930 two high-speed Francis turbines which work with a head of 1.8 metres and a combined water capacity of 5m3. Earlier the turbines were used in a transmission drive system.
Now we have installed two generators which yield 55kW at optimum water conditions. Reconstruction of the turbines was begun in 2002 and they began to supply the national grid in 2005. Since 2008 we have been using the energy produced for our own purposes and any excess energy is supplied to the national grid. Since the turbines and the engine room are housed next to the restaurant and bar, they must maintain minimal noise levels. The engine room is open to the public on request in the company of the operator. In the near future we are planning to expand the hydroelectric plant with more turbines. From an ecological point of view this is one of the oldest, cheapest and cleanest forms of energy.
